History of University of Tehran Student Branch

University of Tehran, UT is the longest established and the largest modern university in Iran. Founded in 1934,  it consists of 38 faculties, institutions and centers. One of its faculties is faculty of engineering. Electrical and  Computer Engineering department of faculty of engineering is one of the best electrical schools in Iran and  provides courses of study for Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy.

IEEE Student Branch at University of Tehran started its formal operation in November 1997.Since the  concept  of student branches was a new idea among students, a great deal of effort was made to introduce the  functions of a student branch and the role of IEEE. In this way, our goals are well defined, highly practical, and  within  reach.

   Our goals:

  • Increasing the research level of UT electrical and computer engineering students.
  • Communication with international IEEE to promote the branch in region 8.
  • A linking between UT professors and students.
  • A connection between UT and industry.
  • Extending other student branches in Iran.

   Our activities:

  • Inviting prosperous professors from foreign countries.
  • Holding scientific workshops, weekly seminars and  symposiums.
  • Holding practical classes and scientific competitions for students.
  • Organizing summer project for undergraduates.
  • Introducing electrical engineering fields to students.
  • Organizing scientific, amusing visits..

Now the main duty of University of Tehran IEEE steudent branch is the registration of students in IEEE.
